Brad Pitt was undoubtedly the MVP of the 2020 awards season between his accolades and his charm. Sure, he swept the Best Supporting Actor category at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, BAFTAs and Oscars for his work in Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood, but it was his speeches that made him the toast of awards season.
It turns out that the wit and humour in his speeches is thanks to the help of some hilarious A-list friends!
Some people questioned whether Brad had a speech writer to help him deliver his viral speeches, but that is not the case. On the 2020 Academy Awards red carpet, the actor told Variety the speeches were the result of some fun times with famous friends, including Fight Club and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher, stand-up comedian Jim Jefferies and screenwriter Bob Oschack.
Brad also revealed another surprising thing: He thinks he’s not good at public speaking.
“I am historically
really bad about speeches,” Brad revealed. “They give me anxiety. I’m tentative going in,
so I just decided if I’m going to be doing this, let’s see if we can
have fun. Let’s figure it out and get loose about it.
“I got a lot of funny friends, if that’s what you’re asking. I got a lot of funny friends. Jim Jefferies, Bob Oschack, my man [David] Fincher. We trade barbs every week, few others.”
“I wanted to bring my mom, but I couldn’t, because anyone I stand next
to, they say I’m dating,” he revealed during his funny speech. “And that would just be awkward.”
The line even got laughs from Brad’s ex-wife,
Admiring his award, he stated, “I’ve got to add this to my Tinder profile.”
“Let’s be honest. It was a difficult part,” the actor continued. “A guy who gets high, takes his shirt off and
doesn’t get on with his wife. It was a big stretch.”
Jennifer, who was once again in the audience, laughed along with fellow attendees.
Finally, Brad rounded out his wins with
his Best Supporting Actor Oscars speech, which was equal parts sweet and charming. He talked about his kids being his inspiration and gave a shout-out to Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, who was nominated for Best Actor for the film this year.
“Leo, I’ll ride on your coattails any day, man,” he quipped. “The view’s fantastic.”
