Health fair, concerts, story swap among weekend’s activities

A health fair, a symphony concert and a story swap are among the weekend’s activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Gospel concert

FORKS — The Crossroads Gospel Team will perform a gospel concert at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The concert will be in the fellowship hall at Forks Congregational Church, 280 Spartan Ave.

Admission is by donation.

The group, which regularly conducts prison ministry concerts, is on the North Olympic Peninsula for a performance at Olympic Corrections Center on Sunday morning.

Proceeds will benefit the group’s ministry.


Health fair

PORT ANGELES — Clallam Mosaic will host a health fair from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The free annual fair at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., will offer a wide range of information about health and wellness.

Attendees will be able to try out a rowing machine, ride the Olympic Peninsula Healthy Community Coalition’s smoothie bike, then enjoy the smoothie they created and watch a demonstration of the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeria.

Peninsula College honors nursing students will give presentations on topics such as blood pressure and heart health, nutrition and diabetes, reproductive health, healthy and unhealthy fats, cold and flu prevention, and obesity.

Tech teardown

PORT ANGELES — Children from 10 to 14 years old can learn about electronic devices at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The free program will be at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Attendees will deconstruct electronic components to learn how they work.

Symphony concert

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra will perform from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The concert is in the Performing Arts Center at the Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave.

Guest pianist Josu de Solaun will play Liszt’s Piano Concertos #1 and #2 with the symphony.

The program will begin with Mozart’s “Overture to La Clemenza di Tito” and finish with the 1919 concert suite of Stravinsky’s “Firebird.”

Doors open early for a pre-concert chat with conductor Jonathan Pasternack at 6:40 p.m.

Tickets are $18 to $35, $15 for seniors and students, children younger than 16 are free with an adult.

The final dress rehearsal at 10 a.m. is also open to the public, tickets are $7 for adults.

Improv workshop

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Players will sponsor a free improv workshop from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The bi-monthly workshop is at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E Lauridsen Blvd.

The workshop, conducted by Lara Starcevich and Fred Robinson, is open to anyone 16 years or older.

Sunday dance

PORT ANGELES — The Sons of Norway will host a dance from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

The dance is at Scandia Hall, 131 W. Fifth St.

Suggested donation is $3. Refreshments will follow the dancing.

Dance styles include Scandinavian, swing, ballroom and folk.

A free lesson will be taught at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited. No partner is needed. Families and all ages welcome.

VFW dance

SEQUIM — A public dance is planned at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The free dance will be at the post hall at 69 E. Washington St.

Jerry’s Western Swing with special guest Jim Hanson will perform classic country hits from the ’50s and ’60s.

Sunday breakfast

SEQUIM — The Veterans of Foreign Wars serve breakfast from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

The meal is served at Post 4760, 169 E. Washington St.

The meal costs $6 per person and is open to the public.

The menu includes biscuits and gravy, with eggs, hash browns, juice and coffee.

Elks bingo

SEQUIM — Sequim Elks will host bingo games from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Games will be at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.

Admission is free with a minimum buy-in of $10.

Players must be 18 or older.

Proceeds will go to Elks scholarship programs, other charities and lodge operating expenses.

SEQUIM — Sequim Elks will host a dance and concert from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The dance is at the Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.

Music will be performed by the Rude & Unprofessional including Latin, big-band swing and waltzes.

Admission is $10 per person, $8 for Elks members.
