The Best Celebrity Tweets About International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day. Honored every year around the world, the special day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women; the first official International Women’s Day was held in 1911, and celebrated in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Denmark. The day also spotlights important conversations around eliminating discrimination, challenging stereotypes, and fighting bias; this year’s campaign is called #EachforEqual, inviting us to create a gender equal world.

Around the globe, various marches were held today embodying this spirit.

On Twitter, meanwhile, celebrities have begun sharing their sentiments around International Women’s Day. Comedian Chelsea Handler offered perhaps the strongest words on the day, writing, “Today is #InternationalWomenDay2020—so take a little time to thank the women around you—and if you can’t find a woman around you, it’s probably because you work in Trump’s administration.” Kris Jenner paid homage to all of her daughters and grandchildren via a series of images and posts. Singer Taylor Swift also created a special music playlist for her fans, comprised of her favorite female artists.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi chimed in on the IWD sentiments as well. “Today, and every day, we commit ourselves to the ongoing fight for genuine equality for all of the world’s women and girls,” she wrote.
