Dr. Jennifer Brokaw, daughter of broadcaster Tom Brokaw, has come on board as the San Francisco Fire Department’s physician, where her job is to oversee the health of the city’s 1,788 firefighters.
“She was thrown right into the ring of fire and is doing an amazing job,” said SFFD spokesman Lt. Jonathan Baxter.
Brokaw joined the department in late February, just as the coronavirus was emerging in the Bay Area.
She heads a five-member team that includes an industrial hygienist, an industrial nurse practitioner and a firefighter who worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As of Friday, the department had four firefighters quarantined — none showing symptoms.
Let’s hope it stays that way.
