The 2017 Texas high school state swim meet was one to remember in Texoma, as a pair of Denison swimmers, a brother and sister, won a total of three medals.
Lindsay Looney was a sophomore and had already won a gold and a silver her freshman year, but this year would be different. She would win gold in both of her events, and set the stage to be the dominant swimmer at the state meet for the rest of her career.
But this year was special, because her older brother, Davis Looney, would reach the podium as well. Davis took home the bronze medal. He would go on to swim at New York University. Lindsay is a freshman on the Arizona State swim team.
This was perhaps the peak of Texoma swimming. Pottsboro’s Laney Recer had also been a state qualifier during this time, and the Looneys were able to accomplish something that’s very rare, for a brother and sister to pull off.
