Koontz

Ellen Carol Koontz, 58, Altoona, died Tuesday morning at her residence, following a brave two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Johnstown, daughter of the Edward Anthony and Carole Ruth (Stahl) Barto. On July 10, 1988, she married David James Koontz in Johnstown.

Surviving are her husband, David; two children: Erin M. Bollinger (Andrew) of Flinton and Neil A. Koontz (Erika Levesque) of Erie; two grandchildren: William S. Bollinger and Aurora A. Bollinger, both of Flinton; her parents of Johnstown; two sisters: Connie Hawkins (John) of Duncannon and Alice Urban (Vince) of Wilmington, N.C.; numerous extended family members; and her dogs: Hudson and Harper.

Mrs. Koontz was a 1979 graduate of Greater Johnstown Vo-Tech School. Ellen was employed as an administrative assistant for Intermediate Unit 8 for five years and previously was employed by the Warren County School District for 15 years.

She was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, Altoona.

Ellen enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed visiting wineries and breweries, planning trips, Penn State sports and was a Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

Private viewing and services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be made at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
