They’re just like us, celebrities. Sure they might have bigger houses.
But, as the star edition of Gogglebox has shown, they watch telly, snack in their comfies and love having a natter about what they’re seeing on screen.
In this second series, actress Denise van Outen and her fiancé Eddie Boxshall are two of the familiar faces letting cameras back into their living rooms.
Here, Denise tells us about their ‘his and hers’ watching habits, and why Gogglebox really is the best job on TV.
You’re back on the sofa – soyou must have enjoyed makingthe first series…
Absolutely. It’s the dream! It’s so lovely to sit on the sofa, binge-watch loads of amazing programmes, have treats and put my slippers on.
I love putting my feet up and having a laugh with Eddie.
Have you been watching a lot more TV recently anyway?
We’ve watched more TV in the last two months then we would normally. When my daughter Betsy’s in bed, we’ll put a drama or film on.
We’re even watching things we haven’t had time to, like The Greatest Showman. Last night I said, ‘Let’s watch something uplifting.’ Eddie wasn’t convinced but when it had finished he said, ‘I loved that!’
Are your tastes in TV different?
I watch a lot of reality stuff, like Real Housewives of Cheshire and Gemma Collins: Diva in Lockdown which isn’t his thing. He says, ‘I’m leaving the room now.’ Eddie likes watching shows like Salvage Hunters and Wheeler Dealers.
Were you Gogglebox fans before?
We love it, and always have. It’s so great to be part of it. It’s brilliant TV because you feel different emotions.
Do you worry about what you say?
Not really because it’s just observation. It’s normally funny, for instance when someone’s done something different to their hairstyle. You know other people are probably saying it at home too.
Has Eddie been recognised by the public since the first series?
Yes, it’s hilarious! He wasn’t really quite prepared for it but when he was out he’d say, ‘People were staring at me and I couldn’t work out why.’ Then they’d realise and say, ‘Are you Eddie from Gogglebox?’
He’s enjoyed it. He came back once from the fish and chip shop and the lady had given him extra chips because he was on the telly!
Which other star would you love to see on the show?
William and Kate. I’d love to be a fly on the wall and see their commentary. Also Joan Collins and her husband Percy. She’s always so glamorous, but I imagine her watching TV in a tracksuit, fluffy slippers and her hair in rollers.

The most hilarious Celebrity Gogglebox moments
Since Gogglebox started running specials featuring celebrities, we’ve loved seeing which stars we never knew were pals, what celebs snack on and who slobs out in trackies. Here are our favourites…
DANNY & DANI DYER
Danny’s grubby bare feet might not have been as palatable as the treats in their snack dish, but the dad and daughter’s banter as they enjoyed shows like University Challenge was. ‘How on Earth does he know it?’ a riled Danny said. ‘He’s wound me right up.’
PETER CROUCH & ABBEY CLANCY
Former footballer Peter and model Abbey showed how funny they are – but there were nearly cross words as they discussed a horror show with Abbey’s dad. ‘What did you just say?’ asked Abbey. ‘You married one!?’
GYLES BRANDRETH & SHEILA HANCOCK
It turns out that the raconteur and veteran actress are the best of pals, and shared some saucy banter – such as when they watched Naked Attraction, and Gyles suggested they have an ‘open kimono night’!
RYLAN CLARK-NEAL & MUM LINDA
Viewers have loved seeing former X Factor favourite Rylan watching with his mother Linda – who’s become a bit of a star in her own right. A hilarious highlight was when she mistook his bowl of fancy vegetable crisps for potpourri.
SHAUN RYDER & BEZ
It was surreal seeing the Happy Mondays stars discussing The £100K Drop’s question about which celebrity bear is always seen nude. ‘I’d put it all on Bungle,’ says Bez. ‘So would I!’ chimes in Shaun. ‘What are they doing, put money on Fozzie? He had an ’at!’
KATE ROBBINS & EMILY ATACK
The mother and daughter entertainers enjoyed First Dates, in which a young woman admitted that she dreamed about her ideal wedding day most nights. ‘Bless her,’ says Kate. ‘Hasn’t anyone told her that marriage is sh**?’
DELE ALLI & ERIC DIER
Dele Alli didn’t do a lot for the reputation of footballers when he turned to his pal and asked ‘What’s a composer? But Eric’s eyes lit up when The Yorkshire Vet came on. ‘This is my kind of programme!’ said the Spurs hardman.
