Just 14 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Nongstoin, India. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Tuesday 3 November 2020 at 12.43 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows etc.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt, based on preliminary calculations, include Nongstoin (pop. 25,800) located 22 km from the epicenter and likely affected by light shaking, Mairang (pop. 12,600) located 51 km from the epicenter and likely affected by weak shaking, Shillong (pop. 132,800) located 75 km from the epicenter and likely affected by weak shaking, and Guwahati (pop. 899,100) located 81 km from the epicenter and likely affected by weak shaking.

A moderately shallow magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported early morning near the town of Pāhala, Hawaii.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake hit on Monday 2 November 2020 at 1.47 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 19.9 miles. The magnitude, exact location of the epicenter, and depth of the quake are likely to be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.0 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.

Just 5 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Hokitika, New Zealand. The tremor was recorded late at night on Monday 2 November 2020 at 10.10 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 0.6 km below the surface.
The event was filed by New Zealand’s Earthquake Commission and Geological Survey (GeoNet), the first seismological agency to report it.

Costa Rica was shaken near the town of Sardinal by an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 only 13 minutes ago, the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 13 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday 2 November 2020 at 6.17 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The magnitude, exact location of the epicenter, and depth of the quake are likely to be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
