Red Raiders Post Strong Final Day in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Tech men’s tennis team is inching closer to completing its 2020 fall schedule, but not before battling at the Big 6 Fall Invitational hosted by TCU in Fort Worth.
Before the tournament, the goal for the Red Raiders was to go above .500 on the weekend. Although the Red Raider fell short of that mark, head coach Daniel Whitehead saw his guys compete at a high level.
“I am really pleased with the way our guys competed this weekend,” Whitehead said. “The opportunity to play, and succeed, against this type of competition really helps us prepare for down the road. We have a lot to be excited about going into the spring season”
The doubles matches were highlighted by the duo of Parker Wynn and Ilgiz Valiev, who went 2-1 on the weekend, defeating the Texas tandem of Harper and Huang in their final match, 8-7.
Issac Arevalo had a strong performance this weekend on the singles side, as he took two wins, defeating Martin of TCU, 6-1, 6-0, and Texas’s Leighton Allen, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Reed Collier and Wynn also saw some success this weekend with Collier picked up a close win to against Oklahoma’s Sheehy, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, on his way to a 2-1 record.

The Red Raiders will travel to College Station next weekend to play in the Texas A&M Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Circuit. The three-day event begins Friday in College Station.
